Chennai’s second bus terminus to open next month
With the Chennai’s primary bus terminus Koyambedu is congested with heavy traffic and lot of people struggle in the weekends to reach the bus terminus also it creates a lot of traffic issues in the surrounding areas. Keeping this in ADMK government made the plan to build separate bus terminus in Madhavaram for Andhra bound buses and Kilambakkam for the Southern areas. Madhavaram Bus terminus is all but ready for the operations from the next month.
Buses can be parked both in the ground floor and 1st floor which will allow the government to operate more buses. All the buses which are going to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will be operated from the Madhavaram bus terminus. Beside the interstate buses, it will also have space for the Chennai MTC buses to operate from the premises to have connectivity with the Chennai main city. Built-in eight acres, it can house 100 buses and can operate 315 services per day. On average officials expect around 12,500 passengers to use the facility every day. The top floor of the terminus can be used as parking space for around 50 buses. The facility was built on Rs. 95 Crore.
